Ever wondered what to give that agnostic friend or family member who’s open to a book about the evidence for the Christian worldview? How about the Christian teen heading off to college in a few months? Or maybe you’ve finally got some time to sit down with a good book yourself. Check out some excellent apologetics books to give this year.
Seven Books to Give as Gifts
Say you’d love to know what they think about it!
1. Hazen, Five Sacred Crossings
Craig Hazen’s fiction is a lot like his lectures—unique, entertaining, and a fun way to discover the uniqueness of Christianity among world religions. I made this required reading for my World Religion students at William Jessup University!
2. Moreland, The God Question: Searching for a Life of Meaning
In a class on responding to the new atheists, J.P. Moreland said he always wanted to write a book you could give to that agnostic friend or family member who’s willing to give Christianity a fresh hearing. This is it.
3. Andrews, Who Made God? Searching for a Theory of Everything
Great for science-types. My friend, Brian Auten at Apologetics 315, put this at the top of his list: “I could give this to anyone and they would understand it, enjoy it, and be challenged by it. Full of wit, humor, and sharp thinking.”
4. Morrow, Welcome to College: A Christ-Followers Guide for the Journey
I picked this up for the college group at the old church where I was a youth pastor. Give teens a heads-up on dealing with the tough issues they’ll encounter in college. Great for high school seniors, too!
5. Strobel, The Case for Christ
A former legal editor for the Chicago Tribune interviews the big apologetics guys in a friendly, story format. See also: The Case for Faith, The Case for a Creator, The Case for Christmas, etc…
6. Dembski & Witt, Intelligent Design Uncensored: An Easy-to-Understand Guide to the Controversy
This is a straight-up, accessible introduction you can understand. Michael Behe says, “Dembski and Witt make the biological nuts and bolts come alive and dance. They show that intelligent design is not only true, it’s fun!”
7. Ordway, Not God’s Type: A Rational Academic Finds a Radical Faith
Check out this year’s sleeper apologetics book by my friend, Holly Ordway. If you havn’t heard of her, you need to check this out. She’s skilled with both the sword of the Spirit and her fencing sword! See how an honest search for truth led her from atheism to Christianity.
