Exclusive Guest Post by Dr. Clay Jones
Some years ago I was taking a class from Dallas Willard and one afternoon he held a pen just below his eye and asked the class if we wanted to see him jab the pen into his eye.
Then he asked us again while moving the pen’s point closer to his eye and exclaimed, “I can do it!”
Then he said, “But I’m not going to. Do you know why?”
No one said a word.
Then he said, “The reason I’m not going to do it is I’m too smart for that. That would be a stupid thing to do!”
That’s right.
In this sad and evil world you and I are learning that sin is stupid. And what better way for God to teach us, who often think we know best, that sin is stupid, than to let us live in a world where natural laws work in regular ways and so we suffer the consequences of sinful choices?
God’s teaching us that sin is stupid so that we will be fit inheritors of His kingdom.
Giving us His Kingdom is the Master’s plan, after all. Thus, Jesus said in Luke 12:32, “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” Then, in v. 44, Jesus said that the faithful and wise servant “will be put in charge of all His possessions.” And Jesus tells us in Rev. 21:6-7
It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
