The Soul and Near-Death Experiences

What happens when you die? In this episode of the Table Podcast, my friend Kymberli Cook interviews me, along with Gary Habermas and Daniel Hill about near-death experiences and evidence for the soul. We focus on the intermediate state and a theology of the afterlife.

I was especially honored to talk about near-death experiences alongside Gary, as I've appreciated his work in this area since I first heard him speak during my time in the apologetics program at Biola University.

Here's an outline of our conversation:

  • 01:21 Biblical passages on life after death
  • 05:46 Views on the intermediate state and heaven
  • 11:46 What is soul sleep?
  • 16:17 Why might some prefer the view of soul sleep?
  • 21:32 How to approach near-death experiences
  • 29:17 Near-death experiences from other religions
  • 36:01 What can we learn from near-death experiences?
  • 40:07 Final judgment and bodily resurrection

Want to learn more about Near-Death Experiences and evidence for the soul?  I highly recommend Gary Habermas' book with J.P. Moreland, Beyond Death: Exploring the Evidence for Immortality.
